CONCEPT STORY

Let's light up the future

Its mysterious town is located on a hill.

At the very top of that hill,
there is a small beautiful orange mailbox
like a morning glow, or like a sunset,
or like when a light is flickering.

The people who live in the town know that
those mailboxes are different from ordinary mailboxes.

In fact, the letter you posted in that mailbox
will be returned to you a year later.

A letter from a year ago

To my future self,

How are you?
How are things going with him?
Are our parents doing well?
Are you happy every day?

Right now, as I write this letter, you—25 years old—are in a total mess. Your room, your desk, your mind, everything is a mess. (lol)

Honestly, I can't even imagine what you'll be like in a year.

But maybe that's how it's always been for me. I never really try to imagine the future. I just throw myself into what I want to do right now, without overthinking it. Maybe that's just my way. (lol)

So, believe in yourself. Even as you grow up, always be true to who you are.

It's okay. You have so many people cheering for you no matter what.

It's okay to be messy—just don't forget to keep moving forward.

I'm grateful for the destiny that brought me to write this letter now.

LOVE!

A letter from a year ago

To my future self,
How are you?
Do you still have time in the morning to make coffee?
How's work going?
Are you doing what you love?
You're probably still worrying about everything, right? (lol)
But that's just the kind of person you are. Even as you worry and sigh, you're probably talking about all kinds of things with a smile, and doing all kinds of things.
Just do the things that make you happy.
Love the people you love as much as you want.
Take good care of your family.
Oh, and don't get too chubby.
Make sure to exercise.
If you have time, join a basketball or volleyball club and give it a try.
It's fun!

I said a lot, but honestly,
As long as you keep being yourself,
That's what would make me happy.

To myself in my second year as a working adult

To myself one year from now,

Are you living joyfully?
Have you grown?
Did you achieve your goals?
Are you staying disciplined?
Are you holding on to what's important to you?

Right now, I'm in my first year at work—like a two-month-old baby.

There are so many things I can't do, so many things I don't know.
Every day feels frustrating when I can't see the results.

Like you, who is reading this letter, I want this year to be a year where I turn hopes into trust—a year of “actions speak louder than words.”

I'm going to think things through and give it my all.
I won't just talk, I'll act.

Thank you for working hard for a year.
Let's keep doing our best, starting today.
Take good care of the people around you. 👍

To myself one year from now

One year—whether it's long or short—thank you for getting through every day!
I hardly ever praise myself, so let me say it now: You did great (even if you feel like you didn't, you really did your best)!

As I write this letter, the weather looks a bit rainy, but I'm satisfied after having breakfast at an old-school cafe this morning.
Lately, my thing is planning little surprises—writing letters out of the blue or preparing small gifts for people I meet. Getting their replies and seeing their smiles makes me feel so happy.

I wonder what the past year—the future that has now become the past—was like for me?
I know a year is enough time for life to change in ways I can't imagine, so I have no idea what my situation is like as I read this now.
If you're spending every day happy—then there's nothing more to say! Yay! Let's keep living happily from here on out! (lol)
But if you've had tough times or things haven't gone well, I hope this letter gives future me a little encouragement.

There are so many things I don't like about myself—my personality, my face, and more.
I wanted to stop hating myself, so I tried to live by asking, “What would my ideal self do?”
It might look fake at first, but by doing that, I found things about myself I actually like:
— Noticing happiness, even if it's small, wherever I am
— Being someone the people I love also love
— Feeling a little better after a delicious meal
— Always trying to stay positive, even when I'm down

So, “What should I do now to be my ideal self?”
That's how I try to make a happy life.

No matter what, keep smiling and living happily.

As long as you keep chasing what you love and spend every day with love for others, I know I'll be okay.
There are still so many things you want to do, right? Let's keep making a happy life from here on out!

To my future self, from a student entrepreneur

To my future self,
I've been watching you.
Watching you work hard.

Going to school, coding non-stop.
One minute talking about blockchain, the next making rings.

Suddenly saying “Let's go to Okutama.”

You're always running toward what you want to do.

Before I knew it, your group of friends kept growing.

You looked so cool.
I was always watching.

So, just keep going.
Keep running.

You'll be fine.

Your life is going to be amazing.

To my future self

Hello, how are you?
To my future self, soon turning 28.

Have you decided where and how you'll spend your birthday this year?
Your 27th birthday party is still up in the air and I'm worried about it. I hope about 50 people will come!

I'm busy preparing for the Miyazaki trip—did it go well? Did anything new come out of it? If not, maybe it's time to go out and look for new opportunities.

I'm sure things have changed a lot.
Maybe I've never actually been able to imagine my future a year ahead. I hope you're someone who goes beyond my imagination. Just like always.

Are you making plans to return to Miyazaki?
It's about time. Let's do our best.
You're always surrounded by the people you need at every moment.

Yesterday, for the first time this year, I felt the summer night.
